Horses get exported into and outside Europe every day. Horse Service International prepares flights outside Europe to different destinations such as USA, Canada and Mexico. Horse Service has a proffesional team at the office who take care about the export shipment of your horse.

Horse Service organises flight bookings on request from clients, these booking’s include planes with horses flying to different countries on fixed days every week. The planes leave from different departure airports, Horse Service has flight bookings from Schiphol airport, Frankfurt Am main, Liegé airport and Luxemburg.

Process before the flight

Once the buyer has bought a horse or when the seller has sold a horse do they make a flight booking with Horse Service International or the agent in America. Once the order for a shipment is received is Horse Service able to start the export procedure.

The export procedure contains a few import factors which need to be completed before a horse can be booked on a flight. After receiving the order, HSI contacts the seller to check if the horse is ready to leave the stable and if pre-export blood testing is done. Horses are tested on different viruses of bacterial diseases before they may leave country of origin. Examples of diseases where horses are tested on are EHV, Coggings, IFAT, C-Elisa and more. Stallions and mares do have to be tested on extra tests when they leave to Amerika, these tests are named as CEM tests. To some countries is it necessary to start a quarantine period before the horses are able to leave country of origin.

Once the pre-export blood testing contains negative results is the horse almost ready to leave. After blood testing does the horse needs to get a official stamped health certificate issued by the Government Vet. The horse gets a health certificate once the horse are inspected and confirmed as healthy and when they meet all requirements from country of destination.

Airport and grooms

At the airport are proffesional horse grooms and team members who take care of the last step in Europe to load the horses on the plane and to do the final handling.

Attendants travel along on every flight: they are called grooms. Grooms take care of the horses during the trip to place of destination. The horses get fed, checked and supervised during the whole trip. These grooms have followed a special education to give the horses what they need and to guarantee safety during a flight

Transport from stable of origin to airport

Horse Service International works closely with transport companies which are specialised and approved for professional horse transport. These transport companies collect the horses through whole Europe and deliver the horses to the airport or layover farms for a stop before the flight leaves.
